Dyslexia Awareness Workshop- Elementary (Paid/Invite Only)

Learning Ally’s Dyslexia Awareness Workshops are designed to help educators and school leaders move from understanding to action. Based on neuroscience and the science of how reading skills are developed, attendees will understand what dyslexic students experience in the classroom and how to build a school culture that supports them. By exploring the indicators and understanding screening, intervention, and accommodations, educators will be better prepared to execute strategies that support students with dyslexia, and leaders will be better prepared to support their educators in implementing those strategies.

Learning Objectives
■ Understand and empathize with dyslexic students by participating in a simulation.
■ Recognize the signs of dyslexia in your students and understand its neurological basis.
■ Discuss the requisite skills needed to build the foundation of reading.
■ Learn appropriate strategies and tools to support students with dyslexia.
■ Build systems to support educators and students.

Communities of Practice

Learning Ally’s Communities of Practice professional learning programs go beyond “one-and-done” workshops to ensure the effective application of dyslexia awareness and brain-based literacy instruction in order to ensure student achievement and close the literacy gap. Together with the Dyslexia Awareness sessions the communities of practice sessions provide the benefit of individual reflection time and reinforcement of content through discussions with colleagues.

This innovative learning format leverages the power of your educator community to provide support and hands-on, practical learning that elevates instructional practice and improves student outcomes. With discussion-based learning by engaging in peer-to-peer support, collaboration and learning, educators are able to strengthen the implementation of their literacy plans. Communities of practice are crucial as we tackle the literacy crisis and close the achievement gap:
  1. Community Discussion and Brainstorming: Challenges are discussed in depth and strategies for addressing those challenges are established
  2. Practice, Practice, Practice: The educators in the community have the opportunity to practice the new strategies.
  3. Progress Review and Continued Community Support: Review progress, draw upon continued support for implementing new strategies, and celebrate successes.
